         Inspector General Tekur Sashi Kumar, TM assumed charge as the Commander, Coast Guard Region (North-West) on 27 Jul 24. The Flag Officer was tenanting the appointments of Deputy Director General (Human Resource Development) as well as Deputy Director General (Aviation) (Offg) at the Coast Guard Headquarters, prior taking over the helm of Region (North-West).

       

        The Flag Officer joined the Indian Coast Guard in Jul 1992 and earned his coveted flying wings at the Naval Air Operations School (erstwhile Observer School) at INS Garuda, Kochi in 1996 and his ‘Flying Instructors’ Torch from Navigation Training School at Indian Air Force Station Begumpet in 2004. An accomplished Observer and Qualified Navigation Instructor, he has served in all the front-line units of the Indian Coast Guard, ashore and afloat, on both the Western and Eastern Seaboards including the A&N Islands. The Flag Officer has successfully undertaken numerous tactical, rescue and relief operations as a true ’Seaviator’, during his over three-decade service career.

 

        The officer has excelled academically by being the first ICG Observer to have been awarded the ‘UP Trophy’ for Standing First Overall and ‘FOC in C East Rolling Trophy’ for Best in Flying during Ab-initio Observer Course in 1996. Further, during his QNI Course in 2004,he again became the first ICG Observer to bag the ‘Maharaj Dhanrajgir Trophy’ for Standing First Overall, ‘Sqn Leader Sareen Memorial Trophy’ for Best in Flying and ‘Air Force Trophy’ for Best in Ground Subjects.The Officer also cleared the Maritime Law Enforcement Course at FLETC, Charleston, USA with Distinction in 2006 and was awarded the ‘Best Boarding Team Member’ award.


         The Flag Officer possesses a rich operational experience and has commanded Inshore Patrol Vessel (IPV)      ICGS Gangadevi, Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) ICGS Vishwast, and was the commissioning Commanding Officer of Advanced Offshore Patrol Vessel (AOPV) ICGS Shaunak. His notable ashore appointments include Chief of Staff at Regional Headquarters (East) Chennai, Commanding Officer Coast Guard Air Station Chennai and Chief Staff Officer (P&A) at Regional Headquarters (East) Chennai. The Flag Officer served as Coast Guard Advisor (CGA) to the Director General Indian Coast Guard, and has also tenanted the appointments of Joint Director (Plans), Director (Coastal Security), Director (Intelligence), Principal Director (Air Staff), Principal Director (Operations) and Principal Director (Administration) at the Coast Guard Headquarters, New Delhi.

 

       The Flag Officer is a graduate of prestigious United States Naval War College, Newport (RI),USA and recipient of Tatrakshak Medal (Meritorious Service) in 2011. He is married to Archana and they have two children Aditya and Ankita.
