Additional Director General KR Suresh, PTM, TM, joined the Indian Coast Guard on 19 Jan 1987. On elevation to the rank of Additional Director General, he took over the command of the Western Seaboard w.e.f 13 Sep 22.
 

The Flag Officer during his 35 years of illustrious career has commanded various classes of Coast Guard Ships viz. Advanced Offshore Patrol Vessel ‘Sagar’, Offshore Patrol Vessel ‘Varuna’ (ICG training ship), Fast Patrol Vessel ‘Annie Besant’ and Inshore Patrol Vessel ‘Kittur Chennamma’. His important Command appointments ashore include Commander Coast Guard Region (Andaman & Nicobar), Commander Coast Guard Karnataka and Commanding Officer ICGS Mandapam. He has held various key staff appointments viz. Joint Director (Ops), Director (Ops & CS) Principal Director (Operations & CS) at Coast Guard Headquarters, New Delhi, Officer-in-Charge Bureau of Naviks at Mumbai, Chief Staff Officer (Personnel & Administration) at Regional Headquarters (East), and Deputy Director General (Operations & Coastal Security) at Coast Guard Headquarters. During the tenure as DDG(Ops & CS) at CGHQ, New Delhi, ICG attained renewed Operational Tempo and glory in the conduct of national, International level operations, exercises, seminars, meetings, training and cooperation activities for peace, good order, law enforcement and safety as well as security of all oceans around us. The Officer is a specialist in Communication and Electronic Warfare. He is an alumni of the prestigious National Defence College, New Delhi, College of Naval Warfare, Karanja, Mumbai and Defence Services Staff College Wellington. He has represented Indian Coast Guard on numerous occasions to various countries which include UK, France, Germany, Srilanka, Mauritius, Seychelles, Indonesia, Singapore, Namibia, Austria, Switzerland, South Africa, Thailand, Oman, Maldives, Netherlands, Myanmar, Japan and UAE. The Flag officer’s interaction with these nations has contributed immensely towards the growth of the organisation.
 

On the academic front, he is a bachelor in mathematics and was awarded Masters in Defence Studies. Further, he pursued and completed M.Sc. in Telecommunications and M.Phil in Defence Studies. In addition, the Officer completed PGDBA in Operations/HR Management from Symbiosis. He is an avid cricketer and a basketball player. His hobbies includes reading books and listening to music.
 

The Flag Officer is a recipient of the prestigious President Tatrakshak Medal, Tatrakshak Medal, DGICG Commendation for meritorious services and Special Operation Badges.
 

The Additional Director General and Mrs Jayanthi Suresh have one daughter, who is happily married.
